EXP2:LECTURE 7 REFLECTION

These series of slides came from the lecture 7 which focuses on the lights and shadows applying in architecture. the chapter "shadow as repetition" is fascinating one, which demonstrates the important role the lights play in architecture and how interesting a building could be by light. I was inspired a lot that it is the light(and shadows which are the productions of both lights and constructions) to give a "dead" building "life". For example, in the slide above the fireflag-like light (left-hand side)along with the stairs gives a clear direction to people where to go, and those sparkle lights(right-hand side) give people a feeling of mystery.

The structure, the texture, etc. are all unchangeable factors for a building, but the light. take sunlight for instance, the direction of the sun chages during a day and everyday is different during a year. thus, the building can give people different apparences and feelings in different time. it makes a building fresh and variable.

Therefore a smart design should take advantage of light, no matter for the energy-efficiency purpose or for the attractiveness purpose.
